Design Considerations and Construction Techniques for Modern Wood Buildings
In Design Considerations and Construction Techniques for Modern Wood Buildings, you'll learn ...
- Modern construction methods for foundations, floors, exterior walls, ceilings and roofs using the platform framing method
- Post-frame construction method for commercial and residential buildings
- Timber-frame, mill type and glulam beam construction
- Design and construction considerations for modern wood buildings, including structural, insulation, moisture, and sound control
Overview
Prior to the 20th century, wood was the major structural material for most houses and commercial buildings. Today, many houses and light commercial buildings are constructed using modern wood structural materials, such as roof and floor trusses, plywood and OSB. Also, an increased interest exists for using wood for transportation structures, including bridges.
This course is intended to provide the student with an understanding of the different types of wood structural material used in construction along with many factors that must be considered when constructing wood buildings.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Types of wood material used for different components of building construction
- Types of wood material used for different components of building construction
