Biodiesel Fundamentals
In Biodiesel Fundamentals, you'll learn ...
- How biodiesel is manufactured, as well as biodiesel quality specifications
- The applications and benefits associated with biodiesel
- Considerations for storing, handling, blending and distributing biodiesel
- Biodiesel health, safety and environmental considerations
Overview
Biodiesel, which is manufactured from plant oils, animal fats, and recycled cooking oils, is most commonly used as a blend with petroleum diesel in compression-ignition engines. This course provides an overview of biodiesel blends, the advantages of using biodiesel, precautions for use of biodiesel during cold weather, and the proper procedures for handling and use of biodiesel.
This course is intended to provide engineers with basic information on biodiesel as well as detailed information on biodiesel testing requirements, compatibility issues, cold weather issues, and requirements for handling, storage, and transportation.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the sources and processing of biodiesel.
- Explain the benefits of biodiesel use.
- Identify key attributes of biodiesel.
- Compare the physical properties of biodiesel with those of No. 2 diesel.
- Summarize the ASTM D6751 standards for biodiesel quality.
- Identify material-compatibility issues associated with biodiesel.
- Explain cold-weather issues associated with biodiesel.
- Describe proper methods for blending, storing, and transporting biodiesel.
- Explain engine and equipment warranty considerations associated with biodiesel use.
- Identify taxes and incentives related to biodiesel.
- Summarize basic safety, health, and environmental issues associated with biodiesel.
- Describe considerations for biodiesel fire safety and firefighting.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 20 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
