Hydro-Electric Power Generation
In Hydro-Electric Power Generation, you'll learn ...
- The types of conventional hydro-electric power plants
- How marine energy works
- The hydrologic cycle
- Describe the different types of hydro-turbines
Overview
This is a 3-hour course about hydro-electric power plants. Hydroelectric power is the largest renewable energy source in use today. There are several types of hydroelectric power plants from impoundment facilities with dams and large reservoirs to marine energy systems that use the ebb and flow of ocean tides to generate power.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The types of conventional hydro-electric power plants
- How marine energy works
- The hydrologic cycle
- Describe the different types of hydro-turbines
- Differences between a reaction and impulse turbine
- Calculate the potential hydro-electric energy
- Benefits of pumped storage hydro-electric plants
- Describe the advantages and disadvantages of hydro-electric power
