Process Piping - Metallic Piping Systems
In Process Piping - Metallic Piping Systems, you'll learn ...
- Metallic piping materials and their properties
- The proper application of each material
- Factors contributing to corrosion and practical methods for controlling them
- Support spacing and thermal expansion considerations for metallic piping
Overview
This course addresses engineering requirements for metallic piping systems. It discusses various types of metallic piping and their properties, corrosion theory, corrosion prevention, pipe support requirements, thermal stresses, pipe specifications, material properties, and common alloys and their proper application. It also includes examples of design calculations and references to relevant industry standards.
This course is applicable to civil, environmental, sanitary, and mechanical engineers in many industries, including water/wastewater, manufacturing, chemical, and HVAC.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the theory of corrosion.
- Identify the causes of galvanic corrosion and methods for mitigating it.
- Describe the causes of pitting corrosion and methods for mitigating it.
- Explain the causes of intergranular corrosion and methods for mitigating it.
- Identify the causes of stress-corrosion cracking and methods for mitigating it.
- Describe the causes of erosion corrosion and methods for mitigating it.
- Explain the use of piping supports in metallic piping systems.
- Assess the need for thermal stress analysis.
- Identify material grades, specifications, and suitable applications for ductile iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and aluminum piping.
- Describe material compatibility recommendations for fluids in contact with metallic piping, nonmetallic piping, and elastomeric materials.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 10 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
