This course discusses a wide variety of methods of measuring filled pipe and open channel liquid flow. Included is a brief history of flow measurement technology, various methods of liquid flow measurement currently in use, things that can affect measurement accuracy and repeatability, and things to consider when selecting flow instrumentation for a particular application.
Flow element and transmitter designs will be discussed and the advantages and disadvantages of each dependent upon the type of flow measurement application.

- Define terminology related to liquid flow and flow measurement.
- Identify conditions that can affect flow meter accuracy, repeatability, and reliability.
- Describe current methods for measuring liquid flow rates in filled pipes and open channels.

- Describe how a flow measurement signal is converted into an electrical output signal.
- Identify the factors to consider when selecting a flow sensor and associated hardware for a particular application.
