Geotechnical Engineering Basics For Non-Geotechnical Engineers
Credit: 7 PDH
Subject Matter Expert: Mohamed Khalil, MSc Geotechnical Engineering
In Geotechnical Engineering Basics For Non-Geotechnical Engineers , you'll learn ...
- Common properties of soil and explorations
- Methods of calculating settlement
- Methods to calculate and assign the allowable soil bearing capacity
- Types of earth pressure and how each is calculated
Overview
This course is intended for a wide range audience and in particular, the non-geotechnical engineer. However, it is not intended as an exhaustive review of the subject. The course focuses on more common subjects in rudimentary fashion. In this course, you will learn the background for bearing capacity and settlement analysis, lateral earth pressure and retaining walls, as well as piles, drilled shafts and common soil properties.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Common properties of soil and explorations
- Methods of calculating settlement
- Methods to calculate and assign the allowable soil bearing capacity
- Types of earth pressure and how each is calculated
- Total force resulting from lateral pressure and factors of safety
- Piles and drilled shafts
- Soil compaction
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 40 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
