Medium Voltage Transformers – Volume I
In Medium Voltage Transformers – Volume I, you'll learn ...
- The electrical characteristics of transformers
- Transformer design parameters
- The types of distribution transformers in use today include both overhead and underground transformers.
- Relevant industry standards related to medium voltage transformers
Overview
This course covers medium voltage transformers. There are over 50 million medium voltage transformers in operation in the United States. These transformers convert utility primary voltages (5 kV to 35 kV) to end use voltages for residential, commercial, and industrial uses.
This is volume one of two volumes. Volume I explains the electrical characteristics of transformers, design parameters, and the types of distribution transformers in use today including both overhead and underground transformers. Relevant industry Standards are also addressed. Volume II gives practical guidance on the application of medium voltages transformers, including wiring connections.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The theory of transformer operation
- How impedance is determined
- How to calculate economic losses in a transformer
- The importance of transformer polarity
- The different types of transformer construction
- How to read a transformer data nameplate
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 25 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
