Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS), Volume I
In Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS), Volume I, you'll learn ...
- Principles of operation for high voltage alternating current (HVAC) transmission lines
- Control of power flow in HVAC transmission lines
- How FACTS technology increases the steady-state and/or transient stability operating regions of the system
- Benefits of Static VAR Compensator (SVC) systems
Overview
This course covers Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System (FACTS) devices, which can be employed to improve stability and increase the load-carrying capacity of a high-voltage electric system.
There are many types of FACTS devices, and several devices are discussed in this series. Volume I of this two-volume series explains the basics of electric power system operation and provides an overview of the FACTS controllers, and offers an in-depth look at one of the earliest FACTS devices, which is the Static Var Compensator (VAR).
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The concepts of FACTS devices
- How FACTS devices can increase power transfer
- The operational limitations of HVAC transmission systems
- The types of compensation techniques
- The operation of a static var compensator (SVC)
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 29 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
