Credit: 2 PDH
Subject Matter Expert: Mahmoud Ahmed, P.E., M.Sc., M.ASCE, GMICE
In Design of Steel Domed Structures, you'll learn ...
- Applications for steel-domed structures
- Advantages afforded by using steel-domed structures
- Choosing of statical system for a domed structure
- Determination of loads, analysis, and design of structural members
Overview
Domed structures are widely used in many types of buildings, such as museums, churches, masjids, old historic buildings, and many other similar buildings because they have an amazing view from outside and inside the building.
They are also used in industrial plants, such as cement plants, for the storage and blending of limestone and cement clinker. The advantage of domes structures are listed below:
This course covers domed steel structures, particularly for industrial use, as they have additional structural requirements differing from historical buildings.
The course covers all structural design processes, starting from choosing of statical system, determination of loads, analysis, and design of structural members. It also covers the erection methods for a domed structure.
The course involves a deep study of the determination of loads on domed structures in accordance with ASCE7-22.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Shapes of domes structures
- Statical systems of domes structures (Roof, walls, secondary members)
- Determination of loads (Dead, Roof Live, Snow, Dust, Wind, Temperature)
- Design of structural members of the dome
- Erection method
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 10 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
