Overview
This course is specifically designed for Ohio-licensed engineers to qualify as a "timed and monitored" online course. The course contains an automatic timer that prevents the user from accessing the quiz and earning a certificate of completion until the minimum amount of study time has been met. This achieves the Ohio Board's intent that an online course should be "paced" by the provider. For more information, please see the Ohio state requirements. This course may also be accepted in other states (see the "Board Acceptance" tab above). However, if you are not licensed in Ohio, it is suggested that you purchase the self-paced version of the course.

In Design of Sanitary Sewer Systems, you'll learn ...

  • How to determine population projections and sewage flow projections in the design year
  • Hydraulics of open-channel flow
  • Appurtenances and special structures in a sewer system
  • Materials used in sewer construction
  • Structural requirement of sewer conduits

This course “Design of Sanitary Sewer System” provides a study of the methods, procedures, and concepts required for design of a sanitary sewer system. It also describes the surveys and field investigations necessary to obtain data needed for the design.

The course offers hands-on knowledge need to successfully design a sanitary sewer system. Tables, charts, and sample problems with solutions are provided throughout the course.

This course is relevant to municipal engineers, public utility directors, consulting engineers, and engineers working in regulatory agencies, as well as any other engineer interested in the design of sanitary sewer systems.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Design criteria for sanitary sewers
  • Establishing the design year and predicting the population projection for the design year
  • Establishing the per capita sewage flow for the design year
  • Calculating sewage flow velocities for different depths of flow and the need for maintaining self-cleansing velocity
  • Selecting the appropriate material for sewer conduit
  • Analyzing the super-imposed load on the sewer conduit for different trench conditions and designing the sewer to withstand the load
  • The need for different appurtenances and special structures in a sewer system

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 15 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
