HVDC Transmission Systems
In HVDC Transmission Systems, you'll learn ...
- Benefits of HVDC transmission
- HVDC operational configurations
- HVDC converter systems
- HVDC control and protection systems
Overview
This course describes the technology of high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems and their application to electric power systems. There is growing interest in HVDC transmission systems to help stabilize the electric grids and to enable the movement of remote renewable energy resources, such as offshore wind energy, to electrical load centers.
The course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- How HVDC could improve the stability and reliability of the electric grid
- How HVDC is beneficial to remote renewable energy sources
- The different types of converter stations
- The limitations of LCC systems
- The advantages of VSC systems
- The filtering requirements of both LCC and VSC systems
- Advantages and disadvantages of different circuit breaker designs
- Control systems for an LCC HVDC system
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 30 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
