Rotating Machines (Video on Demand)
In Rotating Machines (Video on Demand), you'll learn ...
- Commutation as it relates to DC motors and generators
- Synchronous generators connected to large systems, such as the North American Grid
- The workings of DC motors and DC generators
Overview
This course will focus on the fundamentals of rotating electrical equipment, including AC and DC motors and generators. Starting with the required basic theories and working through some example problems, we will move through a simple liner DC machine, rotating DC motors and generators, induction motors. Finally, synchronous motors and generators will be addressed, which will have an entire chapter and set of problems dedicated to it.
It is recommended to have a familiarity with electrical circuits such as Ohm’s law and Kirchhoff’s law and working knowledge of mathematics including equations. However, every effort has been made to keep the calculations as simple as possible complete with detailed explanations related to all calculations. This course can be used as an introduction or as a refresher.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- A working knowledge of DC motors
- A working knowledge of DC generators
- An insight to single-phase induction motors
- An insight to three-phase induction motors
- Understand how synchronous generators work
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 40 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
