Electric Power Conductors Volume I: Electrical Characteristics
In Electric Power Conductors Volume I: Electrical Characteristics, you'll learn ...
- The electrical properties of conductors used in overhead line construction in the electric utility industry
- The materials used and how to calculate DC and AC resistance
- How to calculate inductive reactance, capacitive reactance, and sequence impedances
Overview
This course explains the electrical properties of conductors used in overhead line construction in the electric utility industry. The course describes the materials used and how to calculate DC and AC resistance, inductive reactance, capacitive reactance, and sequence impedances. Both static and dynamic conductor rating calculations are explained. The Fault current capability of a conductor is also shown. This course is the first in a series on utility conductors.
This course is one of four courses on electrical power conductors. The four courses are:
2. Electric Power Conductors Volume II: Mechanical Characteristics
3. Electric Power Conductors Volume III: Medium Voltage Cables
4. Electric Power Conductors Volume IV: Low Voltage Cables
Each course is written as a stand-alone course and it is not necessary to take them in order. Because they are written as stand-alone courses there is some duplication of material among the four courses.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Types of materials used for conductors
- How to calculate DC and AC conductor resistance
- How to calculate the inductive reactance of a conductor
- Thermal conductor ratings
- The factors influencing dynamic conductor ratings
- How to calculate the fault current capability of a conductor
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 20 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
