Introduction to Steam, Boilers, and Thermodynamics
In Introduction to Steam, Boilers, and Thermodynamics, you'll learn ...
- Why we use steam instead of other energy fluids
- Steam properties
- How the combustion process works in boilers
- Overview of boiler designs and applications
Overview
The industrial revolution may have been fired by coal, but it was powered by steam. Humans have been harnessing the power of steam for thousands of years, but it is only in the past 200 years that we have started to rely on it for countless industrial applications. This course looks at the origins of steam, its theory (thermodynamics), generation and applications.
This is an introductory course covering the basics of steam and boilers. It is aimed primarily at electrical, civil, structural and control systems engineers who are unfamiliar with steam systems. Steam systems are used at almost every industrial facility on the planet, so you can apply everything you learn in this course to real-world situations.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The history of steam in engineering
- Heat fundamentals (thermodynamics, latent heat, sensible heat etc.)
- Heat transfer (conduction, convection and radiation etc.)
- Combustion theory (efficiency, heat values etc.)
- Steam properties (wet, dry, saturated, enthalpy etc.)
- Comparison of water tube and fire tube boilers
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 15 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
