Overview
When protecting storage, the first step is the most important – classifying the storage. This course focuses on this critical first step by presenting NFPA-13 definitions of types of storage and packaging. The information contained in the course will be help designers and engineers gain knowledge to assist in classifying storage per the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association, Standard No. 13, Installation of Sprinkler Systems.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The various classes of commodities
- Definition of miscellaneous storage
- The type of information the owner is responsible for providing to the sprinkler system installer
- Why it’s important to know the % of plastic material in a mixed commodity for classification purposes
