Distribution Line Design - Volume 2: Conductors
In Distribution Line Design - Volume 2: Conductors, you'll learn ...
- How to calculate sag and tension
- The various types of ruling spans
- How to minimize the effects of Aeolian vibration
- Methods for calculating proper clearances
Overview
This 3-hour course is the second in a series of three courses about the mechanical design of electric power distribution systems. The volume addresses conductor issues including sag, ruling spans, design tensions, Aeolian vibration, and clearances.
This course is divided into ten short chapters. It begins with an explanation of sag and tension in bare conductors. Ruling spans are explained including the various types of ruling spans. Conductor tensions and tension limits are reviewed. Example calculations are provided. Aeolian vibration is discussed as well as how to minimize the effects of Aeolian vibration. NESC conductor clearances are explained and methods for calculating proper clearances are discussed.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- How sag and tension calculations are performed
- The concept of ruling span
- Design tensions
- How to calculate conductor sags
- How to determine conductor clearances on structures
- How to calculate maximum spans based on vertical clearances
- How to calculate the maximum spans for non-parallel conductors/li>
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 20 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
