3-Phase Systems (Ohio T&M)
Credit: 1 PDH
Subject Matter Expert: Peter Basis, P.E.
In 3-Phase Systems, you'll learn ...
- How to calculate line-to-line voltages in a 3 phase system
- How to verify a balanced load situation in a balanced Y-connected generator
- How to find the magnitude of the voltage across each phase of the load in a balanced Δ-Y system
- How to find total average, reactive and apparent power in a balanced Y-Y system
Overview
To meet the Ohio Board's intent that online courses be "paced" by the provider, a timer will be used to record your study time. You will be unable to access the quiz until the required study time of 50 minutes has been met.

Length: 16 pages
This course introduces 3-phase systems. You’ll learn how to calculate line-to-line voltages, verify balanced load situations and determine average, reactive and apparent power for a number of different configurations. The course covers Y-connected generators with Y-connected balanced load and Δ-connected balance load and Δ-connected generators with Y-connected and Δ-connected balanced loads.
The course material is provided in an illustrative manner, with equations presented without extensive derivation.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Y-connected generators
- Y-connected generators with Y-connected Load (Balanced)
- Y-connected generators with Δ (delta) -connected Load (Balanced)
- Δ-connected generators with Balanced Load
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 10 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
