Transmission Line Design (Volume IV) - Structural Considerations
In Transmission Line Design (Volume IV) - Structural Considerations, you'll learn ...
- How soils affect pole stability
- Areas or conditions where pole embedment depths in soil may have to be greater than the minimum depth
- The application of load factors and strength factors for guys and anchors
- The three characteristics that affect the selection of structural members for poles
Overview
This 3-hour course is the fourth in a series of courses on the design of medium voltage electrical transmission lines. This volume covers pole foundations and guying. The course explains how to calculate the forces impacting a structure and how the structure foundations should be designed to withstand the forces and how guys can be used to relieve the structural forces.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- How soil borings are used in transmission line design
- How embedment depths are determined
- The factors impacting pole stability
- How to determine guy loads on structures
- The load factors affecting guying
- Clearances on structures
- How to calculate buckling loads
- How to properly size guy anchors
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 20 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
