Overview
In Modulation - Volume I - Amplitude Modulation, you'll learn ...
- Sine wave characteristics and how they can be acted upon
- What is heterodyning and how it is applied to modulation
- How "on-off" keying of a continuous wave (CW) carrier frequency was used in the early days of electrical communications and is still in use today to modulate a carrier
- How modulation of an electric current by complex waveforms, the demodulation of the resulting wave, and recovery of the original waveform is used to transmit the human voice
- How a typical plate modulator operates
Overview
This 5-hour course covers the process of amplitude modulation. The course covers sine wave generation, heterodyning, CW modulation, and the various circuits used to modulate RF signals.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The generation of a sine wave and its three characteristics: amplitude, phase, and frequency
- The process of heterodyning
- The two primary methods of CW communications keying
- The radio frequency (RF) spectrum usage by CW transmissions
- The advantages and disadvantages of CW transmissions
- The method of changing sound waves into electrical impulses
- The circuit description, operation, advantages, and disadvantages of the plate/collector modulating circuits
- The circuit description, operation, advantages, and disadvantages of cathode/emitter modulating circuits
- The advantages and disadvantages of AM communications.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 35 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
