Steel Tension Member Design by ASD/LRFD Steel Construction Manual
In Steel Tension Member Design by ASD/LRFD Steel Construction Manual , you'll learn ...
- How to determine the suggested slenderness limit, L/r for tension members
- How to calculate the tensile strength of a tension member
- How to calculate net area when there are staggered bolts
- Tensile yielding in the gross section
Overview
This course covers the design of steel tension members based on the AISC Steel Construction Manual, 13th edition. No prior knowledge of previous codes is necessary. This course should be of particular interest to Civil and Structural Engineers. This course will show how to design tension members based on some of the limit states in sections D and J of the specification. In section D, we look at three limit states. In section J we also look at three limit states. These make up the limit states that are used to design most tension members. Table 5-1 and Table 5-2 are my version adapted from the Steel Construction Manual.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- How to determine the suggested slenderness limit, L/r for tension members
- How to calculate the tensile strength of a tension member
- How to calculate net area when there are staggered bolts
- Tensile yielding in the gross section
- Tensile rupture in the net section
- How to calculate the shear lag factor
- How to use Table 5-1 and Table 5-2
- How to calculate the shear strength of bolts
- How to calculate the bearing strength at bolt holes
