Steel Beam Design
In Steel Beam Design , you'll learn ...
- Types of loads and load combinations by LRFD and ASD
- How the calculations are done by LRFD and ASD
- What are some of the limit states like strength, buckling, shear and deflection in beam design
- Classification of sections as compact, non-compact or slender-element
Overview
This course covers the design of steel beams based on the AISC Steel Construction Manual, 13th edition. No prior knowledge of previous codes is necessary. This course would be of particular interest to Civil and Structural Engineers. The author attended a steel seminar on this new manual when it first came out and there were about 200 people in attendance. Only about 5% were using this new manual. I hope to improve that number with this course. Steel is a recyclable material.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Types of loads and load combinations by LRFD and ASD
- How the calculations are done by LRFD and ASD
- What are some of the limit states like strength, buckling, shear and deflection in beam design
- Classification of sections as compact, non-compact or slender-element
- An illustration of a computer beam design program
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 10 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
