Substations - Volume XII: Auxiliary Systems
In Substations - Volume XII: Auxiliary Systems, you'll learn ...
- AC and DC auxiliary system design considerations
- Low-voltage loads that must be maintained at all times
- Transfer schemes for switching between normal and alternative power sources
- Substation automation system architecture and equipment
- Voice and data transmission methods used to maintain satisfactory operation and control of substations
Overview
This 4-hour course is the twelfth in a series of courses on the design of electrical substations. The courses do not necessarily have to be taken in order and, for the most part, are stand-alone courses.
This course covers auxiliary systems which includes AC auxiliary systems, DC auxiliary systems, substation automation, and substation communications.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The need for AC auxiliary power
- The different options for auxiliary power
- The different types of batteries used in substations
- How to calculate DC loads
- The various data acquisition and control elements
- The various communications methods
- How power line carrier systems work
- The benefits of fiber optics for communications
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 25 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
