This 3-hour course is the ninth in a series of courses on the design of electrical substations. The courses do not necessarily have to be taken in order and, for the most part, are stand-alone courses.

This course provides a brief introduction to substation structural design issues and methodology.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the issues related to the structural design of substations.
  • Identify the structural types used in substations.
  • Compare the benefits of each structural type.
  • Describe how equipment support structures are designed.
  • Calculate wind loads on structures.
  • Determine short-circuit loads on structures.
  • Calculate seismic loads on structures.

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 20 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
