This 4-hour course is the fifth in a series of courses on the design of electrical substations. The courses do not necessarily have to be taken in order and, for the most part, are stand-alone courses.
This course covers circuit interrupting devices such as circuit breakers, circuit switchers, metal clad switchgear, and reclosers.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain basic design issues associated with power circuit breakers.
- Identify the different types of circuit breakers.
- Describe how power circuit breakers are rated.
- Distinguish among the different types of circuit breaker operating mechanisms.
- Explain when metal-clad switchgear might be used.
- Identify the different types of metal-clad switchgear.
- Describe how reclosers are used in substations.
- Explain how reclosers are classified.
- Identify the types of controls used on electronic reclosers.
