Under proper conditions, wood can give centuries of service. However, under conditions that allow the development of wood-degrading organisms, wood degradation will start to occur. Protection for the wood must be provided during processing, merchandising, and use. This course is intended to provide the student with an understanding of the different types of organisms that can degrade wood.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain fungus damage to wood and methods for controlling it.
- Identify different types of mold, fungal stains, and chemical stains.
- Describe insect damage to wood and methods for controlling it.
- Explain marine borer damage to wood and methods for controlling it.
