Overview
When sawn, a log yields round timber, ties, or lumber of varying quality. Lumber that can be bought or sold in the normal channels of commerce can be considered commercial lumber. Round timbers and ties represent some of the most efficient uses of our forest resources. They require a minimum of processing between harvesting the tree and marketing the structural commodity. This course is intended to provide the student with an understanding of the different types of species and characteristics of hardwoods, softwoods, and round timbers and ties.

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The different types of hardwood lumber and their characteristics
- The different types of softwood lumber and their characteristics
- Reviewing the standards, specifications, and durability of round timbers and ties
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 15 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
