The use 2003 IRC standards for the course in 2016 makes it some what out dated. WEBMASTER NOTE: The author has researched this issue and finds that while the applicable FEMA guideline is several years old, that it has not been changed and the information is still considered current at this point.

Very detailed and clearly written. I am quite pleased with the quality and depth of this course. It has allowed me to assess the earthquake resistance of our own home and others in which we have lived. I recommend this course for all P.E.s.

I was looking for more technical information for engineering. This is only to suggest above code improvements. If the structure does not meet the code limitations, then an engineer is required.

After taking this course I learned the reason it is divided into Part 1 & Part 2 is because Part 1, this course, is a descriptive presentation of the components required to understand earthquake design and construction. Therefore, it didn't get into any kind of calculations or "meat" of design. I assume that will be in Part 2.
