Social responsibility seems a most lacking idea these day, but neccessary, these courses keep the concept of a greater good alive.

ET1003 is an interesting variation in ethics presentation, but is a misnomer in its title. The course has very little to do with trench boxes / shields. Perhaps, it should be renamed by deleting it from the title, or maybe revised to include additional aspects of such trench protection. It might be interesting to include examples of trench boxes used in conjunction with steel roadway plates relative to safety and protection. Regardless, the course does consider aspects encountered in other fields, and relates such to engineering and construction.

Good review of the overall responsibilities of the engineer when it comes to protecting the public and the engineer's social responsibility.

I think this course covered an important but often overlooked topic very well.

I am very impressed with my experience and the learning material on PDHengineer.com. Also, I would like to compliment you on your on-line 'live' help - which is the best I have ever experienced.

Nice course, easy and convenient to complete.
Steve Yates |
Good review on how we should go beyond what is 'required' of us as professional engineers.

This course made me think more about the construction phase of the project I work on and the potential liabilities associated with that phase. We are going to reconsider how we write some of our specs based on this information. Thanks

This course is very relevant. My experience as a construction engineer for a state DOT involved trench safety. On "permit" projects, where a municipality had utility work done on our ROW, a consulting firm generally had done the design work and had oversight over the construction. However, the consultants usually insisted that they were merely "observers," and ducked all responsibility for safety on these projects, particularly the use of trench boxes, something I found objectionable.
