Nicholas P. Pucino, P.E.
Nicholas Pucino, P.E., is an expert in the field of highway engineering, maintenance, traffic safety, and accident analysis with over 60 years of field experience. Mr. Pucino has gained extensive hands-on experience in the design and construction of various types of highways while working for the New York State Department of Transportation and the former East Hudson Parkway Authority. He has held supervisory positions for these agencies with major responsibilities for the design and construction of several hundred million dollars’ worth of highway projects.
Since retiring from State service in 1991, Mr. Pucino has worked full-time as a highway engineering expert. He has investigated over 600 traffic and pedestrian accidents and provided testimony on traffic-safety issues in the NYS Court of Claims and various state Supreme Courts. A substantial part of this work has involved accidents wherein the design and performance of traffic barriers were major issues. This required extensive familiarity with state and local standards and practices including their historical development.
During his 30 years of experience working for the State of New York, Mr. Pucino was directly involved in the design of safety barriers at hundreds of sites. In private practice, his engineering knowledge was applied to analyse the forces, energy and kinematic factors involved in numerous barrier crashes.
Mr. Pucino graduated from Manhattan College in 1957 with a degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in transportation and structures. In 1982, he received a Master of Science degree in Administrative and Engineering Systems from Union College. He has been a Licensed Professional Engineer in New York State since 1962.
