George McKinney
George McKinney was employed as a Senior Compression Engineer at a major gas transmission corporation until his retirement in 2000 after a 31 year career. His professional career progressed from field evaluation of compressor units through failure analysis, computer modeling and specification of reciprocating and centrifugal compressors ranging from 100 to 15,000 horsepower. He is currently employed at a contract engineering and design company, evaluating and designing installations of gas compressors, gas conditioning, measurement and regulation equipment, and chemical processing equipment.
Significant career accomplishments include: His work with Dresser-Rand Corporation as an independent engineer to facilitate redesign and application of a 1960’s designed hydraulic/mechanical continuously variable compressor unloading system to a PLC controlled electronic/hydraulic system. He also headed a committee of the Pipeline Research Council, International to evaluate and specify best design approaches for mounting high horsepower, high speed reciprocating compressors. He is co-holder of patents with Southwest Research Institute on compressor indicator channel resonance correction.
Mr. McKinney is a graduate of West Virginia Institute of Technology in Electrical Engineering Technology, with subsequent studies in Positive Displacement Machinery. He has presented numerous papers at the Gas Machinery Conference and the Eastern Gas Compression Roundtable. He is a certified trainer for Intermediate Compressor Operation and Application, author of a training textbook on gas compressors and drivers, and a frequent presenter and group leader at the above conferences.
