Course Fee:  $28.95

John Galinski, P.E.

Overview

Prior to the 20th century, wood was the major structural material for most houses and commercial buildings.  Today, many houses and light commercial buildings are constructed using modern wood structural materials, such as roof and floor trusses, plywood and OSB.  Also, an increased interest exists for using wood for transportation structures, including bridges.  This course is intended to provide the student with an understanding of the different types of wood structural material used in construction along with many factors that must be considered when constructing wood buildings.

In this course, the student will review Chapter 16, Use of Wood in Buildings and Bridges from General Technical Report FPL-GTR-113, “Wood Handbook – Wood as an Engineering Material” published by the Forest Products Laboratory, USDA Forest Service (issued March 1999).

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions at the end of this course to earn PDH credits.
