Water Treatment Techniques for Contaminant
Removal
Raymond Ehrhard, P.E.
Overview
The
Safe Drinking Water Act provides maximum limits for contaminants that must be
met by public and private drinking water systems. Various conventional
treatment technologies and alternative treatment technologies have been
determined suitable by USEPA to meet these limits. These treatment technologies
have been designated as optimum technologies for specific water contaminants by
USEPA. Treatment techniques and their various costs for specific contaminant
treatment are provided for small sized systems. Treatment terminology and
drinking water limits are presented along with water chemistry for specific
contaminant removal used with the treatment systems.
In
this course the student will learn some of the basics of drinking water
treatment for a variety of water contaminants regulated by USEPA. The course is
suitable for a student with basic water treatment knowledge or for an advanced
student that needs to brush up on water treatment basics.
The student is expected to read and review the material contained in the Water
Treatment Primer for Communities in Need, Advanced Water Treatment Research
Program Report No. 68, U.S. Dept. of the Interior - Bureau of Reclamation.
The student must take a
multiple-choice quiz consisting of forty (40) questions at the end of
this course to obtain PDH credits.
