Robert Hintersteiner, P.E.

Overview

This four hour course focuses on the engineering requirements for a Traffic Impact Study.  These requirements include: predesign activities; various types of traffic volume studies; traffic signal warrant analyses; condition diagrams; and traffic capacity analyses. This course will enable an engineer to follow the proper procedures in conducting various types of traffic studies as well as the need to present them to governmental agencies having jurisdiction for review and approval.

The course includes a detailed example of a Traffic Impact Study that demonstrates the relationship between the configuration of an intersection and how vehicles and pedestrians interact.  This course will be especially helpful to Highway Engineers and Traffic Engineers, and others involved in site development and planning.

Participants taking this course will learn the importance of collecting sufficient data to properly complete a Traffic Impact Study.

At the conclusion of this course the student will:

  • Be able to conduct the required predesign activities.

  • Be able to conduct the required traffic volume studies for various types of analyses.

  • Understand the requirements for complying to the MUTCD Traffic Signal Warrants.

  • Have greater knowledge as to what is needed to prove that a traffic signal is warranted.

  • Be able to conduct Capacity Analyses to determine the Level Of Service during different scenarios.

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions at the end of the course to obtain PDH credits.
