Decommissioning of Nuclear Facilities
Vincent Reynolds, P.E.
Overview
Compared to sewage waste that can be treated in
the local wastewater treatment plant, or placed in landfills, radioactive waste
is an entirely different subject. Radioactive waste can be very dangerous when
exposed to humans. Because its such a hazardous material, nuclear facilities
that use radioactive waste should follow several protocols when being
decommissioned. This course covers the design criteria to facilitate
decommissioning of nuclear facilities. After reading this 3 hour course the
student will have valuable information that can be used to help safely
decommission nuclear facilities.
The course materials are based solely on the materials “General Design Criteria
to Facilitate the Decommissioning of Nuclear Facilities” as published on the
website of the Army Corp of Engineers.
The student must take a
multiple-choice quiz consisting of sixteen (16) questions at the end of this course to earn PDH credits.
