Structural Design of Concrete Lined Flood
Control Channels
Vincent Reynolds, P.E.
Overview
Concrete lined flood control channels are used to
convey rapid and tranquil storm water and prevent flooding. You have probably
noticed concrete lined flood control channels while driving along the
interstate, state highway, or being used in large land development projects.
Often times they are used where storm water pipes would not be a feasible option
from an engineering and economic standpoint. This course addresses trapezoidal
and rectangular flood control channels lined with reinforced concrete. The
student will learn parameters for selecting channel type, including methods and
materials of construction that should be followed. After reading this 4 hour
course the student will have valuable information that can be used to assist in
safely designing concrete lined flood control channels.
The course materials are based solely on the materials “Structural Design of
Concrete Lined Flood Control Channels” as published on the website of the Army
Corp of Engineers.
The student must take a
multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions at the end of this course
to earn PDH credits.
