Engineering Ranks in Top 20 Professions "Engineer" ranked No. 17 in a recent list of Money Magazine's Best Jobs in America. Jobs were ranked based on a number of criteria, including compensation, projected job growth and working environment.
Compensation and job growth were given double weight relative to the other categories. "Software engineer" ranked No. 1 in the report with a 46.07% projected 10-year growth rate and an average salary of $80,427 per year.
